DETROIT (AP) The Chicago White Sox are moving Chris Sale back to the bullpen to be the team's closer.

The left-hander was initially set to make his sixth start of the season Sunday at Detroit, but the team says right-hander Dylan Axelrod will take his spot in the rotation that day. Sale, who pitched six innings Tuesday, is not expected to start closing until Monday at the earliest.

Hector Santiago has been Chicago's primary closer this season, but he had a 7.36 ERA entering Friday night's game against the Tigers.

Sale made 79 appearances - all in relief - in 2010 and 2011. He was moved to the rotation this year and is 3-1 with a 2.81 ERA.
